Nothing Is More Cringeworthy Than Politicians Using Pop Culture To Seem Cool

Democrats had an all-time cringeworthy moment Tuesday morning on Twitter.

The official Senate Democrats Twitter account tweeted out a photo about Trump’s upcoming tax plan, and used the “Stranger Things” title as a template. The picture reads “TRUMPREPUBLICAN TAXPLAN IS IN THE UPSIDE DOWN.” The Upside Down refers to an alternate dimension in the hit Netflix show.

It doesn’t get much worse than this. I don’t know anything about Trump’s tax plan, other than I desperately hope it cuts my taxes. That’s not the point here. The point with this dumb tweet is how horrible it is when popular culture gets dragged into politics. It’s similar to when a guy shows up to the party, is clearly a cop and fools absolutely nobody.

Politicians or their parties that pull stunts like this should be booted from office the moment the send button is hit. I don’t care if they’re Republican or Democrat. Get them the hell out. They’ve lost the right to be an elected official the moment they start involving popular shows, such as “Stranger Things.”

We watch those shows so that we don’t have to deal with the garbage of political life. For the love of everything that is good in this world, please don’t ruin one of our last sanctuaries.
