Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was reinstated by the NFL late Wednesday night.

He will be eligible to join the 53-man roster November 27, according to Adam Schefter.

The Browns released the following statement on the big news:

We’ve been informed of the league’s decision to reinstate Josh. The personal well-being of all our players is of the utmost importance to us. We respect and commend Josh for taking the steps necessary to have the opportunity to return to the league. Josh will be in our building in the coming days and we look forward to having him back and sitting with him to discuss his future on our team.

I’ve been very open about the fact I think it’d be a great story for Gordon to make a successful NFL comeback. He was one of the most electric receivers the league had ever seen, but just couldn’t stay away from drugs and alcohol. It’s a dangerous rabbit hole to dive down.

He hasn’t played since 2014, which means he could be very rusty. Not playing football for three seasons could result in a tough time making a transition back to the field. Hopefully, he’s able to pull it off. Josh Gordon coming back and dominating the NFL would be one of the best stories for the league in a very long time.
