Week nine of the NFL season came to an end last night after the Detroit Lions thrashed the Green Bay Packers, and there’s plenty to discuss.

Here are my four biggest takeaways from the past week of action.

1) The Detroit Lions bounced back in a big way.

Matthew Stafford and company looked impressive, aside from a few occasions of sloppy ball protection. The Lions gunslinger sliced and diced his way to 361 passing yards and two touchdowns. The Lions desperately needed a win, and dominating the Packers was a great way to start turning things around.

It’s impressive even if Packers starter Aaron Rodgers didn’t play. The Lions are headed in the right direction.

2) NFL players apparently think they’re in the NHL.

Bengals receiver AJ Green and Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans both got into heated scraps this weekend, as some NFL players apparently believe they are in the wrong league.

Fighting works in the NHL because it’s controlled chaos, and it works as a method of self-policing for the league. Hockey needs fighting. The NFL most certainly doesn’t, and it should never be tolerated.

3) Carson Wentz looks elite in only his second year.

The Eagles quarterback has been playing out of his mind. It’s crazy to think that three seasons ago this guy was throwing footballs in the FCS for North Dakota State. Now he’s got the Eagles at the top of the NFL world.

4) The Los Angeles Rams might actually be for real.

The Rams are 6-2, and rolling through their schedule. Quarterback Jared Goff, running back Todd Gurley and wide receiver Sammy Watkins have the offense on fire. The Rams looked like a dumpster fire when coach Jeff Fisher got fired last year. The future looked bleak, but everything has turned around. I don’t think anybody saw that coming.
