The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Is Off To A Rough Start In China

The Victoria’s Secret models have either landed in the People’s Republic of China or they’re on their way, but there’s a reason you haven’t seen any photographs or footage of the girls on the ground.

Members of the media, who have flown to the host nation to cover the annual fashion show, are having trouble getting visas from the Chinese government, causing what Page Six calls an “international media crisis.”

Due to the standoff between the media and the Chinese government, fashion bloggers, TV producers, photographers and videographers don’t know what they have permission to shoot. Even Victoria’s Secret staffers can’t send out press releases from the upcoming event because they have to be approved by the government. The issue is such a big deal that some reporters are canceling their trips for fear that they won’t be able to do their jobs when they get there. “If you’re going to China, you want to show that you are in China!” one insider told Page Six.

“It’s just a nightmare for all the media trying to cover [the show],” another insider added. “These TV companies are spending a fortune on it, and they don’t even know what they can shoot when they get there.” (SLIDESHOW: The Sexiest Looks From The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show)

Last year’s show had its own set of problems, taking place in Paris shortly after the terrorist attack and Kim Kardashian’s high-profile jewelry heist, but the show went on. Hopefully Victoria’s Secret will be able to work things out in Shanghai this time around, otherwise viewers may not see the show in the way they’ve grown accustomed to.
