Nebraska is on the hook for more than $4 million dollars over the next 14 months between former coaches Bo Pelini and Mike Riley in buy out money.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell tweeted Saturday, “$4.17 million: What Nebraska will pay combined, as of now, for Bo Pelini & Mike Riley NOT TO COACH over the next 14 months. Can be reduced with Pelini raises & Riley getting new job.”

There aren’t many facts more fun than when buy out numbers are released for coaches. You know the athletic director royally screwed up when he has to pay out $4 million over the next 14 months to guys who aren’t even coaching.

That’s probably one of the many reasons why Nebraska fired athletic director Shawn Eichorst. You can’t hand out awful contracts, fire a guy like Bo Pelini, have the program get worse and expect to keep your job. It’s just simply not going to happen.
