The MLB bonuses checks for the playoff teams came through, and the Houston Astros got a massive chunk of extra cash for winning the World Series.
TMZ reported the following playoff bonus figures:
- Houston Astros: $438,901.57
- Los Angeles Dodgers: $259,722.14
- NY Yankees: $138,000
- Chicago Cubs: $138,000
- Arizona Diamondbacks: $40,000
- Boston Red Sox: $36,000
- Cleveland Indians: $36,000
- Washington Nationals: $36,000
- Colorado Rockies: $18,000
- Minnesota Twins: $18,000
That’s not a bad payday for the teams, especially the top four. I don’t know if an extra quarter of a million dollars will make the World Series loss sting any less for the players on the Dodgers, but it certainly can’t hurt.
Imagine working a job where you fail (losing the World Series), and still get a check for more money than the vast majority of Americans earn in a year. That’s certainly not the worst situation to be in. It’s still pretty impressive if you just cashed a cool $18,000 if you’re on the Rockies or Twins.
Not shockingly, being a pro athlete has pretty nice perks.
