Washington State University president Kirk Schulz tried to tamp down fears that football coach Mike Leach might be leaving for a different job.

“We are doing all we can to ensure that @Coach_Leach and his staff have the resources and support needed to compete for Pac 12 Championships. #GoCougs,” Schulz tweeted to his followers Monday.

That might not seem like much to people on the outside looking in, but that’s pretty much code for they’re working on a contract extension. Anybody who has ever been part of a college sports program or has grown up around them can see right through this tweet to the true meaning.

This also shouldn’t be surprising to anybody. Leach has made Washington State into a very competitive football program, and his name has been routinely mentioned for bigger job openings. However, the fact he hasn’t left WSU at this point probably means that he doesn’t intend to at this point.
