The New York Yankees are one step closer to naming a new manager to succeed outgoing Joe Girardi.

In a report by the New York Post this morning, the pinstriped franchise is officially “done with their interviews” and will likely name a new manager very soon.

Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman told a small crowd it’s “pencils down now…I’m closing the doors on the six we’ve interviewed. From that, we’ll make a recommendation. It’s time to make a recommendation to ownership and go from there.”

Six men are being considered for the job, including newly retired Houston Astro “Carlos Beltran, ESPN broadcaster Aaron Boone, Giants bench coach Hensley Meulens, longtime Yankees coach and executive Rob Thomson, former Indians and Mariners manager Eric Wedge and Dodgers third-base coach Chris Woodward.”

Late yesterday, rumors that A-Rod was being considered for the job started to circulate. But Cashman shot them down today. “He never expressed interest in any way, shape or form…I don’t want to speak for him, but I don’t think he has any interest in that position.”

It definitely didn’t seem that way yesterday, after JLo posted a photo to her Instagram, urging the Yanks to consider her boyfriend.

Also being eyed by the Yankees as a player is Shohei Otani, a star dual threat athlete who’s currently playing in Japan. “I think he’d be a perfect fit for us,” Cashman said. Otani can both hit and pitch, making him an attractive prospect for the team.

Pretty glowing remarks for the usually tight lipped manager.
