The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science established its first ever “code of conduct” on Wednesday in what seems to be a direct response to the wave of sexual misconduct claims that have hit Hollywood over the last couple months.

Following the two bombshell reports that exposed Harvey Weinstein for allegedly sexually harassing and assaulting dozens of women over the span of three decades, the Academy expelled him from the group. (RELATED: Apparently Harvey Weinstein’s Academy Award Hopes Don’t Look So Good)

Shortly after Weinstein’s removal, Academy CEO Dawn Hudson detailed their plans to establish a code of conduct in response to the culture of sexual harassment and predatory behavior in the industry.

The Academy’s new code states that the organization will not tolerate “people who abuse their status, power or influence in a manner that violates standards of decency,” Page Six reports. It also establishes that the board of directors may suspend or expel any members of the academy who violate the code or “compromise the integrity” of the group.

Many of the movies produced by Miramax and The Weinstein Company have seen success at the Academy Awards. The disgraced Hollywood producer allegedly leveraged that success on countless occasions to coerce aspiring actresses into complying with his advances. Weinstein continues to maintain that any relations of sexual nature were consensual.
