I finally grabbed a copy of “Call of Duty: WWII,” and it was everything I hoped it would be.

Everything that I’d heard about this game was outstanding, but I was a little slow on the uptake to get myself a copy.

I love war video games. Absolutely love them, but I must admit that over the past few years, I’ve felt like some of these games have gotten ridiculous. Something has gone terribly wrong if war games have fictional weapons, jet packs and dumb stuff along those lines.

“Call of Duty: WWII” has none of that garbage. It goes right back to the basics. You get your M1, your Colt 1911 .45 pistol and every other classic WWII weapon.

I fired up the campaign almost immediately after getting home. It was a blast. I’ve only gotten through the first few missions, but this game is already better than just about anything COD has ever done.

Nothing is more fun than running around with an M1 and absolutely smoking Nazis. The opening mission is D-Day, and it’s almost like it’s right out of “Saving Private Ryan.” You take the beach, clear bunkers and light up anybody who gets in your way.

I haven’t dabbled yet with the multiplayer, but I’m sure that’ll be great too. I’m just taking my time working through the storyline, and collecting as many Nazi skulls as I can.

This game is absolutely worth checking out. It’s worth every penny, and fans of classic WWII games won’t be disappointed at all.
