Ladies and gentlemen, America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift turned 28 years old today.

Everybody knows that we are huge fans of Swift at this publication. There’s no debate about it. In fact, we’ve debated instituting a strict hiring policy that bans her critics and haters from ever stepping a foot in our office.

I was introduced to a prospective hire a few weeks ago, and the first question I asked was, “Do you like Taylor Swift?” I figured it was important to get the main questions out of the way right at the beginning.

The truth of the matter is that I probably don’t want to be your friend and most likely hate you if you’re not down with Team Swift. Her music is an emotional rollercoaster that we should all buy a ticket for. Now, I know what you’re thinking. How can I, a man who loves sports and beer, be a Taylor Swift fan? Well, the reality of the situation is that I appreciate just about everything about her. I don’t care if she’s a pop singer. Props to me for being man enough to admit it.

First, I’m a huge fan of people who hold grudges. I’m a big grudge guy myself, and evidence would seem to indicate that Swift is too. The main examples are the fact she released her newest album “Reputation” on the anniversary of the death of Kanye West’s mother, and she put all her music to Spotify the same day as Katy Perry released a new album. She has well-documented beefs with both of them. That’s an elite grudge game if those were done on purpose.

Secondly, she makes some actual bangers. I dare anybody to listen to her hits and then tell me she doesn’t move the needle. It’s simply the truth.

Finally, she still has yet to deny I may or may not have inspired multiple songs on “Reputation.” All we know for sure is that she sings about a guy with ocean blue eyes (check), goes to dive bars (check) and has a weird accent people notice (check). The evidence is there for those willing to look for it.

So, happy birthday to Taylor Swift. Keep wrecking the game like it’s just a casual Wednesday. We’re behind her ready to go to war over the grudge game or if she just wants to keep writing songs about guys with blue eyes.

P.S.: “Wildest Dreams” has one of the best music videos I’ve ever seen. Just oozes sex appeal.
