There are plenty of safety warnings from Consumer Reports and botanists about watering your plants – especially Christmas trees – during the holidays.

But if you’re like me, you don’t really think about it and water it when you get the time. A family member of mine recently divulged she hadn’t watered her tree since bringing it home in November.

But, gone are the days of carefree inattention to your favorite holiday shrub. The National Institute Of Standards And Technology recently released a video that revealed exactly what can happen to your Christmas tree if you neglect to properly hydrate it.

And if your eyes glazed over after reading ‘National Institute Of Standards And Technology’ (mine certainly did), just watch their video. There’s much more action involved.

Nothing gets your attention quite like a fiery inferno threatening to reduce your home to ashes. I mean just look at that thirsty tree on the left. Ready to have its revenge on you and your family for not watering it. It went from pine to nuclear fallout zone in 10 seconds. That thing took no prisoners. Your family arm chair passed down for four generations? Gone. The My Little Pony you’d gotten specially for your niece this Christmas? Melted.

So let this be a lesson. Buddy, if you don’t water your tree this holiday season, it will have its vengeance. In this life or the next.
