We might be more than 10 days out from Christmas, but I’m pretty sure we got our first miracle of the holiday season Wednesday night.
The Wisconsin Badgers actually managed to win a game, which left me just as shocked as it did happy. Western Kentucky rolled into the Kohl Center, and suffered a one-point loss to my guys.

I can’t believe I’m actually writing this right now. Beating WKU in any season of the past 20 years would be a complete afterthought. Nobody, and I mean nobody, would be impressed by beating a mid-major team, even if they were a talented group of players.
Wisconsin basketball is about crushing your opponents, and demoralizing them to the point they’d rather be anywhere else on the planet than on a court with us. This season has been much different.
The Badgers were 4-7 entering the game, and I was ready to give up hope. I had never seen anything like this team in my entire lifetime. It was depressing as hell. I spoke to a big basketball guy from Wisconsin last night early in the game about our current situation. He described the current team as “the worst I’ve ever seen.”
Unfortunately, I had to agree with him.
That’s why I’m sitting here on a balmy Washington, D.C. morning so juiced. The Badgers finally managed to beat a team that wasn’t completely dead on the court. We might only be 5-7, but perhaps this sinking ship is finally starting to bail some water. We have a long road ahead of us, but I’m finally starting to see the light. A light that appeared as dim as possible just a few days ago.
Strap in because I think things might be about to get wild in Big Ten country.
