Fans of the Clemson Tigers will be able to drink in public if the team makes the college football national championship.

Fox Carolina reported the following:

In Monday night’s city council meeting, council members approved a downtown National Championship viewing event festival along with the suspension of open container laws starting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8 if the Tigers go to the National Championship game.

If open container laws are suspended, city council said people will not be able to bring their own drinks but can purchase alcohol for bars or restaurants in the city.

I love this move. In fact, I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that these city council members are modern day heroes. The world is full of turmoil, but these brave city council members are a shining light in America right now.

Alcohol laws should be suspended across America every weekend of the football season. It’s what our founding fathers would have wanted. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that simple fact. It’s what America was born on.

I’m honestly surprised this doesn’t happen more often. It seems like it’d be the most popular move a politician could ever make. Nobody who votes in favor of beer and football is ever going to lose. It’s simply a fact.

I wish this had been the law during my time in college. Would have saved some close friends of mine a whole lot of trouble with the legal system. I’m glad to see Clemson at least appears to be leading the way.
