Florida Atlantic University football coach Lane Kiffin signed a 10-year extension with the school Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
Earlier this month, @Lane_Kiffin told me he was stoked about the future at FAU. Well, he’s just agreed to a new 10-year deal with the Owls that runs through December 2027. FAU has won 9 in a row and plays Akron tonight in the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl.

I’m happy that Kiffin is getting rewarded for his incredible year with FAU, but this move sucks for college football fans. Kiffin is way too entertaining to be relegated to coaching outside of Power Five football.
It’s cool and all that FAU is good now, and he’s pretty much the main reason for the team turning around. However, it’d still be way more fun for Kiffin to be tearing it up in a major conference. He’s already highly interesting at a small school.
Imagine the chaos he could cause if he returned to major college coaching again. I know he got fired from USC in epic fashion, which was his last head coaching job before FAU. It’d still be worth it. The team would get wall-to-wall coverage on every network you can think of.
Hopefully it happens soon. The college football world doesn’t deserve to be robbed of Kiffin’s greatness.
