Go ahead and cross Mark Cuban off the list of potential Panthers buyers.

After Panthers owner Jerry Richardson announced he would put the team up for sale at the end of the 2017 season, many began to speculate about who might step into the bidding ring.

One name on the list of potential buyers was Mark Cuban. He already owns the Dallas Mavericks and is widely known as an outspoken billionaire sports fan. But when the Dallas Morning News asked Cuban if he had any thoughts on buying the NFL team, he gave a characteristically unrestrained response.

“Why would I buy an NFL team if I think the league is in decline? There’s no team I would want other than the Mavericks, certainly no football team in the universe. There’s not even a close second,” Cuban said.

“I love the Mavs. I love Dallas. I mean, Charlotte’s a great city, but there’s nothing I don’t like here – other than losing right now. I would never turn my back on the city of Dallas,” he continued. “Like I’ve always said, Dallas has given me so much. And what am I going to say to my son and his friends or my daughter and her friends: ‘Oh, yeah: Football’s dangerous for you, but I bought a football team.’ I know I’m a hypocrite from time to time, but I really, really, really try not to be.”

Buying an NFL team anywhere but Dallas would be difficult for Cuban, since he’d probably have to sell the Mavericks. He’s also gone on record predicting that the league is “10 years away from an implosion,” later saying “pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. And they’re getting hoggy.”

So I guess we won’t be seeing the Cubes in Charlotte any time soon.
