Ticket sales for the first Tuesday of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” plummeted 42 percent from the last film, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

According to Showbiz 411, there could be some real concern for Disney after the eighth film in the “Star Wars” franchise earned $20.3 million compared to “The Force Awakens,” which earned $37.3 million on the first Tuesday following its premiere in 2015. (RELATED: ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Expected To Haul In Insane Money From Thursday Showings)

The Monday numbers probably have Disney execs scratching their heads as well, after the sales for the highly anticipated film in the franchise earned $21.5 million compared to the last film which had $40 million in ticket sales its first Monday.

As the report noted, Monday and Tuesday are the dates that adults typically head to the theater to catch the latest “smart” films. Almost all the other films out right now increased its sales from Monday to Tuesday except for “The Last Jedi,” which dropped by six percent.

Box office sales numbers showed the latest “Star Wars” film made $220 million domestically over the weekend, split between Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. “The Force Awakens” opening weekend earned $248.8 million.
