It’s the Christmas season, and that means there’s lots of debate around different holiday season movies.

Well, I’m here to make a bold proclamation. “Red Dawn” is indeed a Christmas movie. Follow me for a second. The film follows a group of high school kids and Patrick Swayze as they lay waste to communist invaders. There’s no direct reference to Christmas in the movie, but we do know that the film starts during football season in the fall, and ends toward the start of spring in Colorado.

That means that December was absolutely covered in the timeline. Well, you’re probably asking why Christmas wasn’t portrayed in the movie. That’s a question with an obvious answer. Nobody has time to cook up a turkey when there are communists who are invading. You think a true American is putting down his gun so you can eat some stuffing when the Russians are a few hundred yards away? Not a snowball’s chance in hell.

I’m as big of a Christmas guy as they come, but it’s time to put down the cranberry sauce when enemy communists are near. There’s no doubt in my mind that “Red Dawn” is a Christmas movie. The timelines match up perfectly, and just because it’s not explicitly referenced doesn’t mean it’s not a Christmas film. These characters were such big heroes that they were willing to set aside a Christmas celebration so they’d have more time for defending the homeland. That’s very much in line with the spirit of the holidays. True sacrifice.

Hell, you could say the greatest Christmas gift of all time would be defeating the Russians and communist invaders. I’m pretty amped to get Christmas gifts every year, but I’d probably be even more excited if I woke up to Russian paratroopers. That’d would give the definition of “getting lit” an entirely new meaning.

If you disagree with my conclusion, it probably means you think Kim Jong Un isn’t that bad, the Soviet Union had a better economic system and the “Miracle on Ice” isn’t that big of a deal.
