NIU Hilariously Tries A Fake Punt From Their Own 10-Yard Line – It Didn’t Go Well

Northern Illinois tried to fake a punt Tuesday night in their loss against Duke in the Quick Lane Bowl, and it went very poorly.

NIU was on their own 10-yard line facing 4th and 18. Seems like a perfect time to dial up a nice punt deep down field. After all, football is a field position game, and this would be a textbook position to pin the opposition deep. Make them eat up the field if they want points.

Is that what NIU did? It most certainly is not. They opted to try a fake punt pass. Again, they were on their own 10-yard line and needed to pick up 18 yards. Doesn’t seem like a great idea.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is why I love college football. There is zero chance that play ever gets called in the NFL. It might even be below zero. It’s a totally different ballgame in college.

I know those special team players must have been juiced. Been practicing that play all year, finally get to execute it in the biggest game of the year and proceed to not even get close. What’s not to love about it? God bless college football. There’s truly nothing else like it.
