British film director Reg Traviss opened up about the backlash he received for his film with Prince Harry’s fiancée, Meghan Markle on Tuesday.

According to the director, he took a lot of heat after deciding not to shoot a nude scene with the actress in his 2015 British gangster drama “Anti-Social.”

In the film, Markle plays Kirsten, a fashion model who falls in love with the main character, who is an anti-establishment graffiti artist. (SLIDESHOW: 18 Times Meghan Markle Already Looked Like A Royal)

“Other people definitely would have taken advantage,” he told the UK’s The Sun. “I think the reason I didn’t do anything like that is because other people would have. It wasn’t needed for the story. I remember at early screenings of the film, various distributors and people like that were like ‘Oh there’s no sex scenes or nude scenes.’ Often they look out for things like that because they feel that it sells.”

But Traviss assured film execs and viewers alike that it has nothing to do with Markle’s acting abilities. (RELATED: Meghan Markle Almost Scored A Big Role In ‘Bond 25’)

“I think with all serious actors they’re willing to portray anything if the story calls for it,” he said. “If it’s appropriate then doing a nude scene is no different to doing anything else, a fight scene or a long monologue. I can only imagine Meghan would fall into that category.”

Some higher ups argued Traviss’ decision to keep Markle’s clothes on may have hurt the film’s chance at success. It earned a 14 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and didn’t take home any awards. Still, the Queen is probably pretty relieved she won’t have to answer for any scandalous nude scenes in the family.
