No matter what your NFL team is, it’s pretty hard not to like Rob Gronkowski. America can’t seem to get enough of him. So the Patriots tight end is about to make a lateral slide into showbiz, according to TMZ.
He’s set to get his own comedy special called “Unsportsmanlike Comedy With Rob Gronkowski.” It’s slotted to premiere this Friday, January 5 on Showtime.
We all know that this is what Gronk was born for. He was put on this earth to perform for a roaring crowd. Not only does he have two Super Bowl rings, he’s also done rap battles, roasted David Ortiz (which NESN couldn’t air because it was too offensive), and has some pretty electric one liners.
He even has some experience with the physical side of comedy, revealing earlier this season that – since he grew up in upstate New York – he’s been thrown through some tables before.
Gronk asked if he’s ever jumped through a table? Of course he has. “I’ve been through tables before, for sure.” #Patriots pic.twitter.com/U9AG2DJTbI

Looks like Gronk will be hosting some big comedy names like Jon Caparulo and SNL’s Finesse Mitchell right off the bat. And — since this is America — girls will be dressed in scandalous ref costumes.
Which begs the question: is there really anything better than the American entertainment industry? America is the only country on earth where you can be a star NFL player and a comedian at the same time. One day you’re roasting a former Red Sox slugger on center stage, the next you’re catching touchdowns from Tom Brady. Gronk is a cultural icon I think we can all get behind.

And, given his experience, there’s really only one way to make an entrance for his premiere.
