Fans of the raunchy 2016 super hero movie “Deadpool” got very good news Thursday when Fox announced it was moving up the release date for the sequel from June to May.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Deadpool 2” will now hit theaters two weeks earlier than previously planned, moving up the release date from June 1 to May 18.

The NSFW trailer was released last month that gives fans just the smallest glimpse of what they can expect when Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin reprise their roles.

The move clearly looks to be strategic, as the early release will put it out one week before Disney-Lucas films releases the solo movie about the beloved Star Wars character Han Solo titled, “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” starring Emilia Clark, Alden Ehrenreich, and Paul Bettany.

In addition, Josh Boone’s “The New Mutants,” with Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton, is being pushed back 10 months, from April 13 to February 22, 2019. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that one of the reasons for the dramatic move was to avoid a possible overlap of “X-Men” movies in certain markets. Without making this call, it is possible “Deadpool 2” and “The New Mutants” would have been competing against each other in theaters.
