Just about everyone was surprised to find out that James Franco didn’t get nominated for an Oscar on Tuesday for his role in “The Disaster Artist,” but the actor reportedly reacted in a way you might not expect.

“James is disappointed in not getting an Oscar nomination,” a source told E! News, “But also very understanding and somewhat relieved. He doesn’t want it to look like the snub is correlated with the allegations against him.”

While that may be the case in Franco’s eyes, that is certainly how his Oscar snub has been viewed by the American public and media organizations around the country. (SLIDESHOW: The Best Looks From The Red Carpet Of The Golden Globes)

Franco’s role in “The Disaster Artist” has been widely recognized as one of the best in the films of the past year and even earned him the award for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at the Golden Globes. However, the 39-year-old is facing multiple accusations of sexual misconduct after his accusers went public with their allegations after he wore a “Time’s Up” pin on his lapel at the awards show. So it’s no surprise that people are drawing a correlation between his snub and the allegations.

Franco has denied the allegations himself and through his attorney repeatedly but hasn’t tried to stop his accusers from speaking out in any way because he believes that their voices need to be heard. (RELATED: James Franco Hesitates To Go After His Sexual Misconduct Accusers)

“James is trying to get through this rocky patch and hopes everything will blow over appropriately,” the source also revealed to E! News. “He is really leaning on his family right now and trying to stay under the radar as much as possible.”
