Natalie Portman Says She Has ‘100 Stories’ Of Sexual Harassment
Natalie Portman said she recently realized she has “100 stories” of sexual harassment as she was diving into her own experiences in light of the Times Up movement in Hollywood, according to Rolling Stone.
“I went from thinking, ‘I don’t have a story’ to ‘Oh, wait, I have 100 stories,'” the 36-year-old actress shared during an interview for the Spring issue of Porter magazine. (RELATED: Natalie Portman Surprises The Golden Globes With All-Male Category Jab)
“And I think a lot of people are having these reckonings with themselves, of things that we just took for granted as, like, this part of the process,” she added, before sharing one of her stories that she said happened on a flight with an unnamed producer on a private plane.
“It was just the two of us, and only one bed was made up,” the “Black Swan” star explained. “Nothing happened, I was not assaulted. I did make a point of saying, ‘This does not make me feel comfortable,’ and that was respected. But that was super not OK, you know? That was really unacceptable and manipulative. I was scared.”
“A lot of people have been speaking out for a long time and not been heard, particularly women of color,” she added. “So, it’s very important the industry listens. … Recently, I’ve been spending more time with other actresses, not in a fake ‘just because we’re actresses so we should hang out’ way. I feel there’s been a shift.”
Last month, the actress got a lot of attention after she took a swipe at the “all-male nominees” as she was presenting the best director award at the Golden Globes.
