It’s no secret by now that Jim Carrey lives in a bit of an alternate universe. And now the comedian is inviting others to join him.

The actor urged his followers on Twitter this week to delete their Facebook accounts in an effort to prevent the spread of fake news.

“I’m dumping my @facebook stock and deleting my page because @facebook profited from Russian interference in our elections and they’re still not doing enough to stop it,” he tweeted. “I encourage all other investors who care about our future to do the same.”

Nice one.

I’ve long been critical of Jim Carrey. Between his unmerited but ever-present criticism of conservative leadership and the bizarre comments he made last year during New York Fashion Week – where he very seriously told his interviewer that he didn’t believe she existed and instead there was just a “wonderful fragrance in the air,” he’s just  a little too much for me.

Kinda hard to come back from that spectacular performance and then seriously urge your fellow citizens to consider fighting alongside him in the war for truth. Thanks Jim, but I’m probably gonna continue using Facebook.

Although, there is something very refreshing about wealthy actors telling other people how to live their lives. It almost never happens anymore and I’m just glad Jim Carrey is brave enough to take a stand and devote himself to a cause. Maybe some of his fellow comedians like Chelsea Handler and Jimmy Kimmel will follow suit. I’d love to hear more of their opinions as well.
