A new study suggests that booze is better to get a longer life than exercise.

The Chicago Tribune reported the following:

The research, led by University of California neurologist Claudia Kawas, tracked 1,700 nonagenarians enrolled in the 90+ Study that began in 2003 to explore impacts of daily habits on longevity.

Researchers discovered that subjects who drank about two glasses of beer or wine a day were 18 percent less likely to experience a premature death, the Independent reports.

Meanwhile, participants who exercised 15 to 45 minutes a day, cut the same risk by 11 percent. (Emphasis added)

“I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity,” Kawas stated over the weekend at the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual conference in Austin, Texas.

Well, I hate, really hate to brag. It’s not my style at all. I hate to do it, but I might make an exception with this case.

Everybody makes fun of me because I pretty much refuse to step in a gym or work out. Sure, I’ll sling the football around from time to time or play basketball, but there’s zero shot I’m interested in hitting the weights or a treadmill. You can’t imagine how much criticism I’ve got for this. As I’ve often noted, I am a shade overweight, but being the son of two natural athletes has allowed me to get away with a diet and drinking habit most people couldn’t dream of. It’s great genetics just like President Trump.

That was always the crutch I used to lean on. However, I can now just point to science and claim that I’m doing it to live longer. This study caused me to laugh out loud when I read it. Imagine being a hardo in the gym, and finding out that my beer habits are more likely to keep me alive.

Am I now obligated to drink everyday? It’s not something I’d want to do, but I also want to live a long life so I can see my future sons win a few Super Bowls. Seems like I don’t really have much of an option here.

So, to all the people who mocked my lifestyle choices of not working out and crushing beers, I’m sorry you were wrong. I’m sure it’s tough to accept. To all those like me, congratulations. Today is a big day. Now go grab a beer and celebrate.
