Despite recently saying that she doesn’t think celebrities should speak out about politics, Jennifer Lawrence joined in on the gun debate at the premiere of “Red Sparrow” on Wednesday night.

Earlier on Wednesday Donald Trump held a discussion with congressional leaders during which he noted how shocked he was by the violence in the movies his son Barron watches. Later that evening Lawrence argued that the entertainment industry has no influence on violent crimes such as the recent school shooting and even said the industry would suffer if people begin to believe it does.
“I think that, you know, we’re the entertainment industry. At some point, there has to be a separation between politics and the entertainment industry or we’re going to suffer,” Lawrence began. “This is, it’s an art. And it’s an art to entertain and, as an industry, we will suffer and people need to take that responsibility on themselves.”
“The same kind of violence is in different parts of the country that don’t have as many problems as we do,” she added. “I think the problems (sic) is guns not the entertainment industry.”

When asked about students who have been protesting in favor of gun control since the shooting that left 17 dead at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Lawrence praised them for their bravery.
“I think what they’re doing is amazing. I think it’s really about time that citizens–we don’t feel safe–and if these kids don’t feel safe then they need to do something about it,” she said. “I admire what they’re doing and I think they’re really brave.”
Lawerence has wielded firearms in plenty of her movies, including “X-Men” and “Winter’s Bone,” and likely gets her hand on a gun a time or two in her upcoming thriller “Red Sparrow” in which she plays a Russian spy.
