There is a rumor floating around that the Minnesota Vikings are prepared to offer Kirk Cousins $91 million over three years.

The number was first thrown around by former NFL player Chris Cooley’s Burgundy Blog, which claims every single penny will be fully guaranteed.

This is an outrageous amount of money, and what I’ve cautioned NFL teams from engaging in. Sure, the quarterback market isn’t exactly saturated, but there’s no excuse to be locking up Cousins with more than $90 million fully guaranteed over three years.

That’s an insane amount of money to offer the former Redskins quarterback. He’d be making more than Matthew Stafford, who by every metric that matters is a much better quarterback. I hate this move so much if it’s true. I don’t mind slapping down a $30 million per year price tag, although that still is a bit high, but guaranteeing it all is so stupid.

It will change the game forever if Cousins inks a fully guaranteed three year deal from the Vikings or any other team. You’re going to see guys like Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Russell Wilson make more money than they know what to do with.
