Shia LeBeouf was arrested in Georgia last summer after cops claim he was unruly during a night out in Savannah.
Police later released video footage of LeBeouf going on a racially charged rant, saying a white officer’s wife likes porn involving “black d*ck” and calling female cops “b*tches” and “w*ores.”
LeBeouf issued an apology after the arrest but formally opened up about it for the first time in almost a year during a sit-down interview with Esquire.
“What went on in Georgia was mortifying,” he said. “White privilege and desperation and disaster … It came from a place of self-centered delusion. It was me trying to absolve myself of guilt for getting arrested.”
He finished the statement by simply saying, “I f*cked up.”
Since the arrest, LeBeouf did a stint at rehab and has been actively working to clean up his behavior. He told Esquire that he experienced a “pop,” what some might conventionally call a moment of clarity, and he decided it was time to try to get clean for good.
He also mentioned that he spent a couple of months with his therapist in an effort to prepare for the interview and rehabilitate his image. It sounds like Shia is trying to make a change, and whether he’ll be forgiven for his past actions is up to the public.
