Owen Wilson and a female friend caused an entire hotel in South Beach to evacuate after violating some pretty strict smoking regulations this week.
According to witnesses, Wilson and a woman showed up to the Tavern At Hotel Croydon around midnight on Wednesday when they lit up a cigarette in the bathroom. Lights began flashing and the smoke alarm went off.
“Owen set off the smoke alarm in the hotel by smoking a cigarette near the bathroom,” a source told Page Six. “The entire hotel was evacuated.”
Sources say Wilson didn’t seem very bothered by the incident and he was seen dancing with his date as the rest of the hotel was evacuated – many of them in their pajamas. So far, his rep hasn’t commented on the incident and Wilson hasn’t issued an apology.
I’m not sure if I lost or gained respect for Owen Wilson after this incident. On the one hand, I’d hate to be evacuated from a lush Miami hotel on a Wednesday at midnight. But on the other hand, it would’ve all been because Owen Wilson caused it. Not a bad reason to get out of bed. Plus it takes a pretty ballsy guy to get an entire hotel evacuated and just keep on dancing like absolutely nothing happened. That’s a move I can get behind.
And this move would only be acceptable if like three celebrities pulled it. And those celebrities are Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, or Will Ferrell. And that’s directly due to their roles in “Wedding Crashers.”
