Mark Consuelos has finally responded to the backlash he received after posting a photo of his wife, Kelly Ripa.
Earlier this week, Consuelos posted a photo to Instagram while on vacation with Ripa.
“Sultry Sundays with the sexy one are my fave,” Consuelos captioned the photo featuring Ripa in a bikini during a getaway the couple took this weekend.
But the photo received some online backlash shortly after he posted it.
Many pointed out that Kelly Ripa shouldn’t wear a bikini because of her age.
“Kelly’s gorgeous, but isn’t there a cutoff age where age-appropriate comes into play?” one user wrote. “Just because you can rock a bikini, doesn’t mean you should.”
And while Consuelos kept pretty quiet about the critics at first, the online trolls must have gotten to him after a few days so he addressed the mounting backlash in an Instagram comment today.
“I wanted to take a couple of days to weigh in. Probably should’ve earlier arguably. But I wanted to be above it. Well, now I’m not. I posted this pic of the woman I most admire. As a playful tribute to my wife who I’m proud of in endless ways,” he said. “She works extremely hard in her professional life and her commitment to exercise, healthy diet is admirable and the benefits show. Yes she’s wearing a bikini at age 47 and will no doubt wear one for many years to come.”
