The Chicago Blackhawks played an accountant at goalie Thursday night against the Winnipeg Jets.

Scott Foster was signed as an emergency goalie, one of the coolest things in sports, and actually had to enter the game for fourteen minutes. He faced seven shots, and blocked every single one of them.

Emergency goalies, which can be signed in the event an NHL team quickly needs a body on the bench, are rarely even brought in by the team. It’s near a miracle if one ever touches the ice. Scott Foster will now go down as a Blackhawks legend.

This is just another example of why hockey is the greatest. No other sport has anything like the emergency goaltender. It’s not like an NFL team needs a quarterback, so they just pluck a guy out of the stands. That’s not exactly the same situation, but it’s pretty damn close. Foster woke up yesterday as an accountant, and went to bed as an NHL goalie.

He also didn’t just sit on the bench. He played 14 minutes in a win for Chicago. What a crazy life to be living, and what an incredible memory for the rest of his life. I don’t know whether or not he was the coolest guy at work already or not, but I can guarantee you he will be the coolest guy in the office when he walks through the doors today.

Also, just in case there are any NHL executives reading this right now. I am always ready to suit up. Give me a call.
