Taylor Swift gave her fans the background story Friday about how her latest song “Babe” with the band Sugarland came to be.
“Hey guys just wanted to say thanks for all the nice things you are saying about ‘Babe.’ It’s a song that I wrote with Pat Monahan [Train] when I was making the ‘Red’ album,” the 28-year-old pop singer shared in a video posted on Instagram Friday.
“I’m so happy that it gets its own life. I’m so happy that Sugarland wanted to record it and has done such a great job with it,” she added. “And I am so stoked to be able to sing on it too. So, just wanted to say thanks and 18 days till tour and I can’t wait to see you.”
Shortly after it was released Thursday, fans noticed how much “Babe” sounded like it was meant for her 2012 album “Red” and took to social media to share their excitement.

Speaking to E! News, Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles explained that putting someone else’s song on one of their albums was a first for them, but they just knew it “belonged.”
“We’ve never put someone else’s song on a Sugarland record, but we were immediately interested in ‘Babe’ the first time we heard it,” Nettles shared. “This one really felt like it belonged so we saved it for the final afternoon of our recording session; a special time for us.”
