Here’s The Latest Development With The Patriots Potentially Signing Johnny Manziel

David Hookstead | Reporter

The New England Patriots are reportedly unlikely to sign Johnny Manziel.

There was a lot of speculation that the Patriots were going to give Manziel a shot, but things apparently changed after they drafted former Purdue backup Danny Etling. (RELATED: THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ARE REPORTEDLY DISCUSSING SIGNING JOHNNY MANZIEL)

ESPN reported the following:

A trickle-down effect of the Patriots drafting LSU’s Danny Etling in the seventh round is that I believe it effectively ends the team’s exploration into Johnny Manziel. In recent months, it’s safe to say the team did its due diligence on Manziel, at one point even considering an additional meeting and/or workout with him outside of the University of San Diego pro day that he had participated in (with a Patriots scout among those in attendance) before plans changed. The Patriots usually carry three quarterbacks and currently have Tom BradyBrian Hoyer and Etling on the roster.

Well, envisioning Manziel running out on the field in a Patriots uniform sure was fun while it lasted. It’s a shame this isn’t going to happen because the reaction from the football world would have been spectacular. I can’t even begin to imagine how wild it would have gotten. Manziel and Belichick would have lit the world on fire, especially if he get back to the NFL before Kaepernick.

What will Manziel do now? I’m not really sure what the answer is to that question. It looks like he’s bound for the CFL or he can wait for the AAF to start up at the start of 2019. There’s probably more money to be made in the CFL, but the AAF might provide a quicker return to the NFL.

Unfortunately, I’m not too confident that we’re going to see Manziel playing in the NFL in 2018, but you never know. It is #ComebackSZN for a reason.
