A Major ‘Star Wars’ Character Is Returning For The Next Film. It’s A HUGE Addition

Billy Dee Williams will reportedly return as Lando Calrissian in the newest “Star Wars” film.

The Hollywood Reporter reported the following Monday night:

Billy Dee Williams is returning to a galaxy far, far away.

The actor, who famously played the galactic gambler Lando Calrissian, will reprise the role for Star Wars: Episode IX, the next Star Wars installment from Lucasfilm.

Chatter about Williams joining the production, which is set to begin later this summer, increased in recent days when the actor bowed out of an upcoming sci-fi and pop culture convention citing a conflict with a movie schedule.

Welcome back, Lando.

I’m super pumped he’s coming back, but I have to be honest that I’m not sure what he’s going to do on screen with Han Solo dead. Lando was only great because he had such an entertaining rapport with Han. Sure, he betrayed him to Vader, but they eventually made up. (RELATED: Check Out This Awesome Inside Look At ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’)

This also seems to be a direct attempt to please the oldest fans in the series. We’ve kind of had enough of all the new stuff they’re trying to inject into the latest films. We just want them to stick to the basics. Lando returning is about as much of a throwback to the original films as you can get at this point.

I just hope they don’t neuter him. Lando is a certified badass. He needs to stay that way. Nobody wants to see a watered down version. Give us the guy in “Return of the Jedi” who helped bust Han out. That’s the Lando the fans are craving.

There is no release date yet for “Episode IX.”
