Conor McGregor continued to stay in the news over the weekend, and this time it involved Russian President Vladimir Putin.

McGregor posted a photo of himself with Putin after France’s World Cup victory over Croatia. He captioned the photo, “Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honored to attend such a landmark event alongside him. Today was an honor for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup.” (SLIDESHOW: These Are The Greatest Ronda Rousey Photos On The Internet)

I don’t know about you guys, but this is a pretty bold move from McGregor. I’m not sure coining Putin as “one of the greatest leaders of our time” is a wise move. Let’s not forget, Russia isn’t exactly a paradise of freedom. There have been a shockingly high number of suspicious deaths of journalists and Putin critics. (SLIDESHOW: These UFC Women Really Hate Wearing Clothes)

Then again, we all know McGregor is an expert at dominating the news cycle. Just when you haven’t heard about him in a few days, the man shows up to the World Cup with one of the most powerful men on the planet. That’s how you generate attention.

I think it’s safe to say McGregor is absolutely dominating life right now. He’s working his way back to the UFC and spending time with Putin. Not exactly a bad way to go about your day. Now, we just need him back in the octagon. Only time will tell when that’ll happen, but we all know it’ll be incredibly entertaining whenever it does.
