Baker Mayfield Proves He’s Got Some Pipes. Belts Out ‘Country Roads’ [VIDEO]
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield went up a few points in my book after he sang “Country Roads” during the first episode of “Hard Knocks.”
I finally got around to watching the entire episode last night, and I had been tipped off to keep an eye out for something that I’d find interesting near the end of the episode.
It didn’t take me long to realize what I was waiting for. Mayfield had to a little rookie initiation, and it involved him singing John Denver’s hit song “Country Roads.” To be honest, he wasn’t half bad considering he had no music backup of any kind. Now, is it as good as the original? Not even close, but that’s not the point.
Anybody who knows me knows that I’m a big John Denver fan. I’m a gigantic fan! I’ve been known to know belt out a little “Country Roads” myself from time to time in the office. It’s just the reality of the situation. It’s a hell of a jam, and being surrounded by people isn’t going to stop me from singing it.
Everybody also knows that I’ve had my fair share of issues with Mayfield, but I think I’m starting to come around.
How could I ever be against somebody who also likes “Country Roads”? I don’t think I can be. It just doesn’t feel right. Just when I thought I was completely out on Mayfield, he just roped me right back in with an outstanding rendition of John Denver’s classic. What a wild life we’re all living.
