Watch Police Gun Down Suspect During Wild Shootout [VIDEO]

Graphic footage of a deadly police chase in east Bexar County, Texas, from earlier this year was just released to the public.

Police near San Antionio were responding to a trooper’s call for help after a Chrysler, driven by 33-year-old Ernest Montelongo, reportedly sped away from a traffic stop. A DPS helicopter was called in for air support to help locate the suspect. More and more, helicopters are being used in high-stakes police chases to offer assistance and potential lifts to the hospital if the chase turns deadly.

And this chase turned deadly, fast. With cameras running the whole time, the DPS support helicopter helped troopers identify the suspect and later airlifted the injured police officer to the hospital after he was shot.

You can watch the entire thing below but — warning — it’s graphic.

“In this case, not only did the helicopter help locate the suspect, but it also transported the injured trooper to the hospital,” Police Activity writes on YouTube. “It was on Sunday, February 18 that a trooper tried to pull over 33-year-old Ernest Montelongo for an unspecified traffic stop. Montelongo allegedly gave a false name, then fled. The trooper briefly lost sight of the fleeing suspect, but a DPS helicopter assisted with finding him.”

I’m not sure if I’ve seen a wilder police chase than this one before. This beats pretty much every episode I’ve ever seen of “Cops,” because it’s all caught from an aerial view.

Luckily, the trooper, whose name has not been released, survived.

But that doesn’t make this video any less scary or insane.
