Ben Affleck has reportedly completed 30 days at a rehab facility for alcohol addiction but will be “staying longer” because he’s “committed to getting better.”

“He is trying very hard to work on himself and get to the root of his addiction,” a source told E! News Monday about the 46-year-old actor. “He has a lot of demons but he wants to understand himself and have the results be different this time.” (RELATED: Jennifer Garner Opens Up About Life After Divorce And Dating Again)

“He is committed to staying longer which is a very positive development,” the source added. “He is taking strides to better himself and is hopeful about the future. He is taking advantage of getting help and is happy with the way it’s going.”

The “Gone Girl” star entered rehab on August 22 after he was spotted in the back of a car being driven by his ex-wife Jennifer Garner to a facility in Malibu, California, following an intervention.

One source shared with People magazine that the way his rehab played out “publicly” might have been the best thing for him.

“He is doing much better but needs to continue receiving care,” the source shared. “As difficult as it was to have his recent trip to rehab all play out so publicly, it now seems the way it happened was for the best.”

“Ben seems to take this rehab visit more seriously,” the source added. “This time is different. He doesn’t want his kids to have to go through this again. Ben is really trying very hard to get better. He is taking things day by day, but it seems he plans on staying at the treatment center for at least a couple of more weeks.”

In 2001, Affleck entered rehab and then again in March of last year he shared that he had recently finished treatment.
