Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is having a tough week.

The three-time pro bowler was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation last weekend after he allegedly threatened to shoot up the Hotel Ivy in Minneapolis. (RELATED: REPORT: MINNESOTA VIKINGS STAR ALLEGEDLY THREATENED TO SHOOT UP A HOTEL)

And according to a new report, Griffen had gone days without sleeping and was fighting “demons,” according to his wife. He was banned from Vikings practice last week so he could be mentally evaluated, but wasn’t getting better. His wife called police after he reportedly tried to break into his teammate’s home shirtless.

But what happened once police found Griffen is the truly disturbing part.

The Star Tribune reported the following:

Police met Griffen outside late Saturday afternoon, and he was making comments about “777” — having to do with angels — and that he went to Waynes’ home because “God made me do it.”

Griffen agreed with the officer to be taken for mental health treatment. But soon after the ambulance was en route, Griffen fled the vehicle. By the time police arrived, he had returned and had his hands in the air. Eventually, Griffen agreed to continue the trip under police escort.

But Griffen, who will not travel to LA for the Vikings-Rams game on Thursday and is still in a mental institution as of Wednesday, isn’t being abandoned by his team.

“I’ve always loved Everson … He’s always been a good model for us and he’s going through some tough times right now,” head coach Mike Zimmer said. “I just hope the best for him.”

Griffen just entered his eighth year in the NFL and was recently elected team captain for the third season in a row.
