A McDonald’s employee is facing up to 20 years in prison for allegedly putting cleaning solution into a police officer’s drink.
Trevor Hockaday, a 22-year-old Kansas man, was charged on Wednesday for sneaking a peroxide-based cleaner into an Allen County deputy’s drink before serving him. (RELATED: WATCH THIS UTAH TROOPER GET SENT INTO THE NEXT CENTURY BY A RUNAWAY CAR)

“According to investigators, the deputy picked up their food and drink while going through the restaurant’s drive-thru. Officials say a short time later, the deputy experienced flu-like symptoms,” local news site KOAM reports. “The peroxide-based cleaner is commonly used to clean the restaurant’s counters.”
If found guilty, Hockaday faces up to 247 months in prison, depending on previous criminal history.
“In our restaurants, nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our customers. We are very disappointed by the allegations made regarding the behavior of one of our former crew members,” McDonald’s owner Glen Nichols said in a statement obtained by KOAM. “This kind of behavior goes against our food safety standards and is not tolerated. Our organization will take all appropriate measures to gather facts and will work closely with authorities in their investigation.”
The Wichita Eagle reports one of Hockaday’s admitted to his coworker that he administered “four little squirts” to the deputy’s drink.
The investigation is ongoing.
