Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love has no regrets about going public about his struggles with mental health.

The NBA champion wrote a very long column for The Player’s Tribune about several problems he was facing. You can read it here, and I suggest you do. It’s more than worth your time. (RELATED: Kevin Love Opens Up About Struggles With Mental Health)

Love told For The Win the following when discussing life since opening up about his struggles with mental health:

It’s been liberating, and it was therapeutic to be able to share my story. Different athletes and different people from all walks of life have come up to me, to not only talk about how my story has helped them, but also share their stories with me.

I feel like I’ve found my life’s work, and that helps my mental well being, to know that I can help people. I turned 30 and was like, ‘wow, I feel like I know what I’m going to do for the rest of my life.’  I know that after basketball, at the end of the day, I have this.

You really do have to tip your cap to Love for being so open about his struggles. Most people aren’t open about stuff of this nature at all, especially athletes. Yet Love hasn’t backed down one bit since going public, and now it sounds like he’s embracing his role as a leader.

Perhaps such a famous person and prominent athlete being open about his struggles with mental health will get others the help they need. It seems like Love is very much aware of the impact he can have and is embracing it.

Props to him and others who aren’t afraid to share their stories.
