The Oakland Raiders and general manager Reggie McKenzie have apparently decided to go separate ways.
According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, McKenzie informed the team’s scouts Monday that he’d been fired. He was also reportedly given the option to stay until the end of the year, but is “not expected to do so.”

As general manager, McKenzie was a key figure in the decision to get rid of Kalil Mack and Amari Cooper. Both of those decisions look like they were incorrect in hindsight.
It’s clear something had to be done, and getting rid of Gruden wasn’t an option. That pretty much means the general manager has to go.
I’m not saying that’s fair or will be the correct decision, but that’s just how football works these days. We’ll see if the Raiders are able to bounce back with a new general manager and avoid having back-to-back disastrous seasons.
