It’s been a tumultuous past few weeks for embattled Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn, but the dust has settled, and Malzahn appears to have come out on the other side.

During media availability following the Tigers’ first bowl practice on Thursday, Malzahn confirmed that no changes were made to his contract, while also expressing optimism that he can get things turned around on the Plains. (RELATED: REPORT: Auburn Quarterback To Turn Pro)

“My contract hasn’t changed one bit,” Malzahn said. “I’ve got the support of our athletic director and president. There’s nobody hamstringing me from doing my job.”

Following a season that began with national title hopes but will end in the Music City Bowl, Malzahn has come under fire from Auburn supporters.

With a $32 million buyout, however, there was never a real chance that Auburn would make a coaching change this year. Another 7–5-type season next year that coincides with a reduced buyout would mean trouble for Malzahn.

There is an urgency to win now and based on his recent comments; Malzahn appears to understand that.
