The Alliance of American Football got underway with a bang Saturday, and San Diego Fleet quarterback Mike Bercovici nearly lost his head during his debut.

Everybody wondered if the AAF would be an entertaining product. Well, Saturday night was a smashing success, and people will continue to tune in if we get outstanding defense like we saw against the Fleet. (SLIDESHOW: These Are The Sexiest Women On Instagram)

San Antonio Commanders linebacker Shaan Washington absolutely destroyed Bercovici with a hit that was so brutal it sent his helmet flying during a 15-6 win.

Watch the insane video below.

It is amazing that Bercovici even got up from that hit. I would be hospitalized for a week if that happened to me. (RELATED: The New Pro Football League Might Succeed For One Very Simple Reason)

What an absolutely brutal shot. In the NFL, Goodell would probably ban Washington for life for a hit like that. Not in the AAF. This is real big boy football.

I was more impressed with the first slate of games in the AAF, and there are even more today that you can watch on the NFL Network and CBS Sports Network.

Check back later in the week for a full wrap with my first impressions. So far, it’s been a lot of fun.
