Don’t expect a quarterback controversy for the Tennessee Titans anytime soon.

The Titans recently traded for former Dolphins starter Ryan Tannehill. Naturally, bringing on another established starter might raise some questions, but the head coach of Tennessee is throwing cold water on any speculation.

“Obviously if Marcus is healthy, and he’s available, he’s our starter. We just felt like, to be able to strengthen the position, to have a chance to add a player like Ryan, who could help us if Marcus isn’t available, then we were excited to do so,” Vrabel told the team’s website in an article published Monday. This seems like an obvious choice for the Titans. I’m not sure why anybody would even doubt if Mariota would start, but we all know how crazy some fans can be.

I do understand it from the sense that we know Tannehill can play ball. He’d start for several teams in the league, but the Titans aren’t trying to get rid of Mariota.

That’s just a fact, and Vrabel is making that crystal clear. As of right now, Tannehill is an insurance policy and nothing more.

Now, if Mariota goes down, then we’ll certainly see Tannehill under center. However, the former Texas A&M player won’t get off of the bench if everything goes to plan for the Titans.

I like Tannehill as a guy and player, but the Oregon Heisman winner is simply better and has a higher ceiling.
