Much deserved.
The Atlanta Braves announced that they will be retiring the No. 25 jersey number of former five-time All-Star center fielder Andruw Jones later this year in September.
Jones will be the 11th player in Braves history to have his number retired.
“It’s a great honor getting your number retired. You don’t think about things like that while you’re playing. You just play the game you love,” Jones said. “I’m thankful to the Braves for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love.”
Jones’ No. 25 will be retired during a pregame ceremony Sept. 9 before an Atlanta game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Now 45 years old, Jones played 17 years in Major League Baseball. Statistically, he racked up 434 home runs and 1,289 RBIs with a batting average of .254, and on the field, he won a mesmerizing 10 Gold Glove awards. Out of 17 years in the league, 12 of them were with the Atlanta Braves, playing for the franchise from 1996-2007.
Jones joins elite company as Braves players who have had their number retired — Dale Murphy, Bobby Cox, Chipper Jones, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Greg Maddux, Warren Spahn, Eddie Matthews, Phil Niekro and the legendary Hank Aaron.

I grew up with Andruw Jones as an Atlanta Braves fan, so I’m definitely all for this.
It’s amazing, it feels like just yesterday when I was a kid watching Andruw on TBS and chatting with other Atlanta fans on the Braves message boards. Now, he’s getting his number retired. (RELATED: Tampa Bay Rays’ Randy Arozarena Hits Hilarious Pose During Home Run Trot)
