Paramount+ greenlit the dystopian thriller “Curfew” in February, and the premise sounds absolutely haunting.
“Curfew” is one of the few international original series greenlit by Paramount+ in the last few weeks, according to Deadline, and it is kind of easy to see why. The series is set in a dystopian world “where men live under a strict nightly curfew.” Within this fictional society, all males must adhere to “The Women’s Safety Act,” so they cannot leave their homes from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and all of their movements are tracked 24 hours a day via ankle monitor.
But when the body of a woman turns up, murdered during the curfew hours and left outside a Women’s Safety Center, all heck breaks loose. The series is described as a “provocative and thrilling show that aims to contribute to the important conversation around violence against women” by producer Nathalie Peter-Contesse. And this is an extremely important topic of conversation.

While I doubt many men will end up watching this series, particularly as the lead actors are almost all female, it’ll be interesting to see how the writers interpret their strange fictional world. Here in reality, all women know the panic, that feeling of being unsafe either outside alone in the evening, or anywhere with the wrong type of man. In my experience, the behaviors of bad men are so foreign to good men, most good men don’t believe what they hear from victims of bad men. So, if this series is any good, it’s up to us women to get men to watch it.
The series stars Sarah Parish, Mandip Gil, Mitchell Robertson and Alexandra Burke. There is no official release date at the time of writing.
