‘The Wire’ Star Is Talking About That Fight With Bernie Sanders Supporters
Wendell Pierce is giving police a slightly different version of the story following a fight between him and Bernie Sanders supporting-hotel guests.
“The Wire” star told police that he did follow the women and her boyfriend back to their hotel room, as the earlier reports claim, but that he was standing outside their room when “they tried to pull him inside” and he was trying to get away, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“I regret that what started as a civil political discussion escalated to the level that it did,” he said in a statement. “Although what has been reported thus far differs in important respects from what actually occurred, I have confidence that the judicial process will work as it should.” (RELATED: That Story About ‘The Wire’ Star Hitting A Sanders Supporter Is Crazier Than We Thought)
Pierce, a Hillary Clinton supporter, became upset when speaking about the election with a couple who were Bernie Sanders supporters.
An eyewitness has recounted the night and said he recalls waking up to see the guests he was staying with fighting to keep Pierce from getting in through the door, after the couple had retreated to their room when the chat turned less friendly.
“He was trying to force his way into the room, and had a handful of Maggie’s hair, and yanking on the hair, and swinging his arm around,” the person said.
According to the eyewitness, the actor’s “arms and one of his legs” were visible in the hotel room as the three struggled to keep the door from opening. They said they could also hear a woman’s voice on the other side of the door begging Pierce to stop. The source added it was not until one of them in the room threatened to get a knife that the chaos ended.
Pierce was arrested and charged with simple battery and released on $1,ooo bond.
