Encouraging Women To Stop Wearing Yoga Pants Is A Horrendous Take

The New York Times recently ran an op-ed about how yoga pants are bad for women to wear while working out, and it’s a really bad idea.

The article reads in part:

But yoga pants make it worse. Seriously, you can’t go into a room of 15 fellow women contorting themselves into ridiculous positions at 7 in the morning without first donning skintight pants? What is it about yoga in particular that seems to require this? Are practitioners really worried that a normal-width pant leg is going to throttle them mid-lotus pose?

We aren’t wearing these workout clothes because they’re cooler or more comfortable.

We’re wearing them because they’re sexy.

To be clear, the author does write that she is a fan of yoga pants outside of a gym setting, but that’s not really the point here. I want good looking women in yoga pants at every single possible opportunity. I don’t think anybody has ever argued that yoga pants are the greatest workout option.

I think we’ve pretty much just all entered a social contract with the understanding that good looking women should be able to wear yoga pants if they so desire. Of course women are wearing these because they look sexy, and we should really be encouraging this type of activity.

Am I way off here? I think I’m pretty much speaking for the whole world when I say it’s crazy that anybody, woman or man, would ever encourage society to ditch yoga pants at the gym or anywhere else. Allow me to be totally honest and open here, I do not go to the gym. Do I work out? Not really much in the past seven years, but I’d like to believe that the gym is stocked with nothing but hot women wearing skintight workout gear. I’ve seen enough from the Instagram squad to make me believe that’s how everyone at the gym dresses.

This is America. We’ve got nukes, cold beer, football and hot women in yoga pants. For the love of everything that’s good in this world, please do not take that away from us.
